  • Covers First Goalscorer, Anytime Goalscorer, Player to Score 2/3/4 goals, and Score or Assist markets (goals only)
  • Works on singles, multis and Bet Builders — but only pre-match
  • Applies to English Premier League and World Cup fixtures
Place a pre-match bet on a player to score in any English Premier League or World Cup match at Virgin Bet, and if VAR later rules the goal out, they still pay you out as a winner.

That Sinking Feeling When VAR Steals Your Goal

We’ve all been there. You back a striker to score, he slots one home, the stadium erupts, and then the referee points to his ear. A few agonising minutes later, the goal is chalked off for the tightest of offsides or a soft foul in the build-up. Your bet is dead.

Virgin Bet decided that particular form of football heartbreak is no longer acceptable on their books. Their VAR Payout promotion means that if the player you backed scores and VAR later disallows the goal, they still treat your selection as a winner and pay you out in full.

How the VAR Payout actually works

You need to place a pre-match single, multiple or Bet Builder on one of the qualifying markets before kick-off of an English Premier League or World Cup match. The markets covered are:

  • First Goalscorer
  • Anytime Goalscorer
  • Player to score at least 2, 3 or 4 goals
  • To Score or Assist (only the goal part counts for the payout)

If that player scores and the goal is subsequently ruled out by VAR at any point during the match, Virgin Bet pays the selection as a winner regardless of the final decision. On multiples and Bet Builders, the protected selection is simply marked as won, and the rest of the bet continues to run.

In-play bets are not included. Cancelled or cashed-out bets also fall outside the offer. If your selection is void for any other reason, the promotion does not apply.

Who can use it and when the money lands

You must be 18 or older, a registered Virgin Bet member, and physically in South Africa when you place the bet. Anyone with responsible gambling restrictions or self-exclusion on their account is excluded.

When you qualify, the cash payout is credited to your account within 12 hours of the fixture settling. In some cases, it can take up to 24 hours. No extra steps are required — the system handles it automatically.

New to Virgin Bet? The welcome offer still sits there waiting

If you haven’t joined yet, the timing is decent. New South African players can still claim the 100% first-deposit match up to R3,000. Sign up, enter the Virgin Bet promo code BETS if the field appears, deposit between R10 and R3,000 within 30 days of registration, and the matching bonus lands. You’ll need to turn the bonus over 8 times on sports markets (excluding virtuals) at minimum odds of 2.00 for singles before you can withdraw it, but it’s a straightforward way to boost your starting balance while the VAR protection is active.
