  • XUP is early-payout insurance on marked soccer markets, not a cash-out button and not live betting.
  • You pick the protection level: 1UP (one goal ahead), 2UP (two), or 3UP (three).
  • It covers 90 minutes plus injury time. Extra time does not count.
Betfred’s XUP early payout settles a qualifying soccer bet as a winner the moment your team goes 1, 2 or 3 goals ahead — even if the other side equalises or wins later.

Get Paid Before the Final Whistle

Saturday afternoon soccer has a special talent for ruining a slip. Your team is a goal up, the clock is in the red, and then a cheap set-piece or a goalkeeping howler turns a winner into a push. Betfred built XUP for that exact moment. If the selected team hits the lead you chose — one, two or three goals — the book settles that selection as a winner on the spot. What happens after that is noise.

That is the whole idea. Not “maybe cash out at 80%.” Not “wait and see if they hang on.” Once the threshold is met in 90 minutes plus stoppage time, the result is locked.

What XUP actually is

Look for the XUP icon on a qualifying soccer market and choose the level of cover:

  • 1UP — paid if your team leads by one goal at any point
  • 2UP — paid if your team leads by two goals
  • 3UP — paid if your team leads by three

The lead only has to happen once. A 2–0 scoreline at 37 minutes is enough for 2UP, even if the match finishes 2–2 or 2–3. Early settlement is final and applies once per selection. If that same team later wins 3–1, Betfred does not pay the bet again.

It is available online on markets that carry the icon. Qualifying bets can be singles, multiples or systems. Draw selections can still be placed on the same fixture, but they sit outside the promotion. Bet Builder tickets and in-play bets are not eligible, so this is a pre-match tool, not something you switch on after kick-off.

On an accumulator, the rule is useful in a different way. Any XUP leg that hits its lead is marked as a winning selection. The rest of the slip keeps running as normal. That is often the difference between a dead acca after a late PSL collapse and a ticket that still has a chance.

A simple example

Say you back Sundowns 2UP in the Premiership. They go 2–0 up just after half-time. That bet is already a winner. If the visitors nick two late goals, your Saturday is still paid. Same logic on an EPL double: if Liverpool go two up and Chelsea never get there, the Liverpool leg is banked, and the Chelsea leg still has to do its job.

1UP triggers more often and is the version most people will use on tighter games. 2UP and 3UP ask for a bigger cushion, so they suit sides that tend to run up a score rather than grind out 1–0s. The icon on the market is the tell — if it is not there, the promotion is not on that fixture.

Where you can use it

Betfred has put XUP on the leagues South African punters actually watch, not a random handful of midweek friendlies:

  • SA Premiership
  • English Premier League and Championship
  • UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Conference League
  • La Liga
  • Serie A
  • Bundesliga
  • Ligue 1
  • Eredivisie
  • Liga Portugal

The list is not closed. Other competitions can carry the icon when Betfred marks them. Always check the slip before you confirm.

How to place it without overthinking it

Step 1: Register

Create an account on Betfred South Africa. New players should enter the Betfred promo code SAGAMES at sign-up.

Step 2: Deposit

Deposit from R100 to unlock the welcome offer: 100% up to R5,000 plus Sweet Bonanza spins (50 from R100, up to 500 from R5,000+). Bonus funds need a 4x rollover on eligible singles. Spins land by 11 am the next day.

Step 3: Find an XUP market

Open a qualifying match and look for the XUP icon. No icon means that fixture is not covered.

Step 4: Pick 1UP, 2UP or 3UP

Choose how many goals ahead your team must go before the bet is paid. Pre-match singles, multiples and systems only. No Bet Builder, in-play or draw selections.

Step 5: Place the bet

Stake as normal and confirm the slip.

Step 6: Wait for the lead

The selection is settled as a winner once that lead hits in 90 minutes plus injury time. Extra time does not count. If the match is abandoned after the threshold is met, that leg stays a winner.

The terms to Check Out

Read these before you assume every soccer bet is covered:

  • 90 minutes plus injury/stoppage time only. Extra-time goals do not count.
  • Early settlement is once per selection. No second bite if the team wins the match.
  • Draws do not qualify for early payout.
  • Bet Builder and in-play bets are excluded.
  • Only markets showing the XUP icon count.
  • On multis, a qualifying XUP leg is a winning leg; the other legs continue.
  • Betfred can amend, suspend or pull the promotion, and can void or withhold payouts where there is abuse, exploitative betting patterns, collusion, multiple accounts or coordinated play.
